Michael Gleason gave me a chance of a life time when I asked to be considered for the job of editing season 3 of Live From Abbey Road.  The first thing I had to deal with was a change in format.  Those of you who know the series well will notice we changed from having each artist as separate sections, into alternating each artist.  I think this freshened the format up, and allowed viewers to experience the different acts one after the other.  Working on this show was a massive challenge – meeting broadcast deadlines and working with 6 different directors all with their own unique styles meant that I had to be constantly on the ball.  The post-production department was a great team to be a part of,  led by John Mills, with assistant editor Aaron Byelong, colourist Peter Lynch and online editor Phil Stone.  The highlights of the show for me were The Killers, The Mars Volta, Lyle Lovett, Counting Crows, Imelda May, Bat For Lashes and Fleet Foxes.  If I had to pick one track – The Mars Volta’s Goliath – 9 minutes of madness!  The show is broadast on Channel 4 in the UK, Sundance Channel in the US, and 140 other global territories.

The artists featured in season 3 in order of appearance were:  The Killers, Florence and the Machine, Chairlift, The Enemy, Antony and the Johnsons, Paloma Faith, Gossip, The Mars Volta, Friendly Fires, Doves, Lyle Lovett, Mika, Bloc Party, La Roux, Seal, Imelda May, Counting Crows, Melody Gardot, Hockey, Yusuf, The Fray, White Lies, Fleet Foxes, PJ Harvey and John Parish, Manchester Orchestra, Green Day, Bat for Lashes, Starsailor, Michael Buble, The Temper Trap, Little Boots.

“I asked Jon Walton to edit the third season of Live from Abbey Road and I couldn’t be happier with the result. He worked with a disparate team of 6 different directors for the 12 part series and managed to keep all of them happy while at the same time taking the look and feel of the show to a new level.  Jon will be asked to edit the show again and I hope he agrees to settle in for a long run.”
